Periodontal Procedures

At Ferrin Periodontics, we offer a wide range of periodontal procedures to treat gum disease. These procedures can help preserve the jaw bone and/or gums to save your teeth or to prepare for the placement of dental implants. Periodontics can also cosmetically enhance your smile by correcting uneven gum lines or receding gums.

Bone Regeneration

Bone Grafting, or Guided tissue regeneration (GTR), involves placement of Bone Graft and Regenerative/Biologic Materials, such as PRP/PRF, around a tooth or implant to regain lost bone from periodontal disease.

Crown Lengthening

Functional crown lengthening is a simple surgical procedure where the position of the gum around a tooth is adjusted to expose more of the tooth structure. If a tooth is decayed, broken below the gum line, or has insufficient tooth height; there might not be enough tooth structure available to accommodate restoration procedures, such as a crown or bridge.

Frenectomy

t Rogue Periodontics + Implant Dentistry, frenectomies are typically performed using laser Technology, with the PerioLase® MVP-7, that offers a more comfortable patient experience and promotes accelerated healing for a faster recovery.

Gingivectomy

A gingivectomy is a periodontal procedure in which excess gum tissue is removed to expose more of the tooth's structure and can be performed for a variety of reasons. It may be used in combination with other periodontal or cosmetic procedures to create a smile that is both beautiful and healthy.

Initial Periodontal Therapy (SRP + Perioscopy)

Scaling and root planing is a nonsurgical periodontal treatment that is typically recommended when periodontal disease is diagnosed. Gingivitis is the first stage of gum disease, affects only the gum tissues, and is completely reversible if detected and treated early.

LANAP (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure)

The LANAP protocol is a laser-based treatment for gum disease. There is no cutting and suturing with the LANAP protocol. Patients typically report less pain and discomfort during and after the procedure, compared to traditional periodontal surgery.

Periodontal Evaluation

The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) recommends that you receive a comprehensive periodontal evaluation, or CPE, annually to determine if you have or if you are at risk for periodontal disease. By assessing your periodontal health yearly, you and your dental professional will know how healthy your teeth and gums are, and will be better able to assess if you need additional treatment.

Periodontal Maintenance

Periodontal maintenance therapy is an ongoing program designed to prevent the progression of periodontal (gum) disease in the gum tissue and bone that supports the teeth. Periodontal maintenance is usually necessary for patients who have been diagnosed with and treated for periodontal disease.

Pocket Reduction

Pocket Reduction, also known as Osseous surgery, is a procedure we may recommend to treat periodontal disease. As the condition progresses, our team strives to reduce the depth of the “pockets” that form between the teeth and the gums.

Soft Tissue Grafting (Gum Grafting)

If gum recession is present and tooth roots are exposed, a gum graft may be recommended. This procedure is used to control and prevent further gum recession and subsequent damage to the surrounding teeth and bone structure.
